Our First Team Meeting In Egypt

As our team met our production team in Cairo, we had to compromise on a few key pieces of equipment. After talking it out, and eating some great food, we worked out most of the kinks and we jumped headlong in production of "Out of Egypt" and "Lessons From the Land: the Exodus!"

Cairo Market Madness!!
The market in Cairo is not the most ideal location to film an interview... But that didn't stop us! With Buses driving through our set, and locals trying to get us to buy coffee and t-shirts, we had more than a few obstacles... Lessons From The Land... Egypt Style!

Filming a Documentary with No Cameras
Even with months of preproduction and film permits, we still need to expect surprises and learn to just roll with it. We were blessed with a completely unplanned opportunity and had to embrace the unexpected scenario and shoot it with anything and everything we could!

NIGHTMARE Train to Luxor Egypt
The variety of modes of transportation for this trip has been interesting to say the least. During our stay in Egypt our team traveled from Cairo to Luxor on a 12 hour overnight train. Needless to say, few of us slept.

Authentic Brick Making in Egypt
The team visited an authentic brick making yard in one of the villages in Egypt and saw firsthand how challenging it would have been for the Israelite slaves during their time there! Jeremy wasn’t afraid to get his hands (and feet) dirty to join in on the work!

Climbing Up Mt. Sinai
3 miles of a steadily inclined hike, plus 750 uneven steps, leading all the way up to the summit of Jabal Mousa ("Moses Mountain")! The views were incredible and our heart rates were spiking after all those stairs! But to stand in one of the potential locations of where Moses met with God and received the Law made the entire worth it!

INCREDIBLE DISCOVERIES at the Karnak Temple in Luxor
When you think ancient Egypt, you have to think Karnak! This temple is a treasure trove of authentic hieroglyphs and ancient history! We couldn't stop our jaws from dragging on the ground as we walked through!

Traveling in Egypt is NO JOKE!
Weather by boat, or plane, or car, or train, we've crossed the deserts of Egypt in just about everything except segways at this point! Keeping our Stories Straight While Overseas
Justin Dobbs, writer and co-host, joined the Appian Mean team for his first international production trip and worked as our Story Producer, helping to ensure that the key elements of the Exodus story were covered at each of our locations. His easygoing attitude and attention to detail were incredibly beneficial throughout the trip!

We've Been out in the Sun Too Long
Filming in the desert of Jordan was an unforgettable experience! Our team captured some breathtaking visuals, interviewed several locals, and worked long days to emphasize the relentless toll that traveling in this wilderness would have taken on the Israelites as they made their way to the Promised Land. After awhile, however... all that sun and sand seemed to get to us.

Crossing the RED SEA
The crossing of the Red Sea by the Israelites as they came out of Egypt was a pivotal moment in the story of the Exodus. As our team finished our time in Egypt and made our way into Jordan, we reflected on the miracle that God performed for His people and looked forward to what lay ahead in the wilderness.

Desert Stunts in Wadi Rum
Throughout the production of our latest documentary "Out of Egypt" every effort was taken to keep our team safe, even when shots were needed from the back of a truck while driving the dunes of Wadi Rum. With a little ingenuity (and a firm grip on Jet's jacket), we were able to get some breathtaking footage!
